Our Story

Founded in Agassiz, BC — Where Extreme Weather Forged Our Standards

From the Mountain Gateway to Fraser Valley Authority

Dads Roof Repair wasn't born in a boardroom or launched from a corporate office in Vancouver. Our story begins in Agassiz, British Columbia — nestled in the heart of the Fraser Valley where Pacific storms sweep through the valley, and where roofs face some of the most punishing weather conditions in Western Canada.

This isn't just our business location. It's our proving ground.

The Agassiz Advantage: Why Location Matters

When Kory Peters and Johnny Peters co-founded Dads Roof Repair in 2021, they made a deliberate choice to base the company in Agassiz rather than moving operations to larger markets like Chilliwack or Abbotsford. That decision wasn't about convenience — it was about standards.

The Fraser Valley receives over 1,800mm of annual rainfall. Wind shear from converging mountain passes regularly exceeds 100 km/h. Winter brings "Cascade concrete" — the heavy, saturated snow that can deposit the equivalent weight of two vehicles onto a single roof structure. Spring and fall deliver rapid freeze-thaw cycles that cause thermal fatigue in materials.

If a roof can survive the Fraser Valley's climate, it can survive anywhere in British Columbia.

This extreme environment became our classroom. Every installation taught us what works and what fails. Every storm revealed weaknesses in standard installation practices. Every winter proved which materials could handle real-world stress versus laboratory specifications.

Five Years of Relentless Learning

Since 2021, we've installed, repaired, and replaced hundreds of roofs across the Fraser Valley corridor — from the agricultural fields of Agassiz to the strata complexes of Abbotsford, from the heritage buildings of Yale to the hillside properties of Mission.

But we didn't just accumulate projects. We accumulated knowledge.

We learned that the 4-nail shingle installation that passes code inspection in Vancouver fails catastrophically in the Fraser Valley's wind zones. We discovered that standard 36-inch ice and water shield — perfectly adequate in Abbotsford — is dangerously insufficient in Harrison Hot Springs. We found that felt paper underlayment, still used by budget contractors, absorbs moisture and fails within years in our wet climate.

Every failure we witnessed on competitors' work became a lesson. Every material that underperformed became data. Every homeowner's frustration with previous contractors became our motivation to do better.

The Philosophy That Drives Us

Our 5+ years in business have crystallized into a simple philosophy: Build every roof as if it's protecting your own family.

This means:

  • Using only synthetic underlayment, never felt paper
  • Installing 6 nails per shingle in high-wind zones, not the code minimum of 4
  • Extending ice and water shield to 72 inches at eaves in snow zones, double the standard
  • Recommending standing seam metal for properties in extreme exposure areas, even when asphalt would be more profitable
  • Educating customers honestly about material lifespans rather than overselling warranties

We're not the cheapest option in the Fraser Valley. We're the option that lasts.

From Agassiz to the Entire Fraser Valley

What started as a local Agassiz operation has grown into a comprehensive Fraser Valley service. We now serve eight communities:

  • Agassiz (our home base)
  • Hope (extreme weather specialists)
  • Harrison Hot Springs (vacation property experts)
  • Chilliwack (our highest volume market)
  • Rosedale (community-focused service)
  • Mission (hillside installation specialists)
  • Abbotsford (strata and commercial expertise)
  • Yale (heritage building preservation)

But expansion hasn't diluted our standards — it's amplified them. The lessons learned in the Fraser Valley's demanding climate now protect homes across the entire region.

Why "Dads" Matters

The "Dads" in Dads Roof Repair isn't just branding. It reflects how we approach every project: like we're protecting our own family's home.

Kory Peters (Owner & Operator) and Johnny Peters (Partner & Lead Estimator), who co-founded the company together, answer their phones. Our crews live in the communities we serve. When a storm damages six roofs in Chilliwack on a weekend, we're staging materials within hours because these aren't just customers — they're our neighbors.

In small communities like Rosedale and Agassiz, reputation is everything. Word travels fast. A sloppy job, a missed callback, or a dishonest estimate doesn't just lose one customer — it loses an entire network of referrals.

This accountability keeps us honest. It keeps us available. It keeps us excellent.

The Next Chapter

As we move into our sixth year of service, our mission remains unchanged: to be the Fraser Valley's most trusted roofing authority by combining hyper-local climate expertise with uncompromising installation standards.

We're not chasing growth for growth's sake. We're building a legacy — one roof at a time, one satisfied customer at a time, one storm survived at a time.

From our home base in Agassiz to your home, we're here to protect what matters most.
